Tourism webquest

This time, I got a webquest for you. You will talk about tourism. Here you have some links that may help you with this. I want you to use Salvadoran places or any other place in the world.

http://www.infoguiaelsalvador.com/
http://www.elsalvador.travel/welcome/
http://www.tourism.com.sv/

If you want any other link, feel free to look for it.

Then, when you have your place, I want you to create a little essay about it. I know you can do it. I just leave you this idea. Surprise me.
What you are doing is the following.
1- What's the name of the place? Where is it located?
2- What can you do in this place?
3- What are your plans if you visit this place?
4- Why should people visit this place?

Open a word document, and answer those questions in an essay. It shouldn't take you more than 30 lines to answer. By the way, the font of your essays must be Arial 13. After you finish it, send it to my e-mail: skycent77@gmail.com

Any question, tell me.

Webquest brands

Welcome: GLOBAL BRANDS
Description: Investigation about the origins and present status of global brands
Grade Level: Intermediate
Teacher: Alba Jeaneth Arévalo

Global brands are the perfect example of how globalization works. Companies like Coca-Cola or MacDonalds have become a global sign and they are present everywhere. But, what do you really know about them? When did they started as a company? and how?. Do you know if they are really present in the whole world?
You are going to start a virtual investigation to find out about one of those brands and give answer to all these questions and more!!

The task in this WebQuest is to investigate the origins and present status of any of the most important global brandsin the world and then write a short report with the information that you have gathered.
To guide your writing you should try and answer the following questions:
PRESENTATION
-what is the main activity of the company?
ORIGINS:
-When was the company founded?
-Where was the company founded?
-Who founded the company? Was it an individual person or was it another company?
-Which was its original activity?
-Is there any interesting story about the founding?
PRESENT STATUS:
-In what countries is the company present?
-How has the original activity of the company changed into the present date?
-What is the economical situation of the company?

  1. Your first step is to find and chose a brand that you want to investigate. You can simply look for brands in Google randomly, but look out! they might not be in the 100 TOP BRANDS. To check a list for those you can go here:
  2. You are ready! You have to chose the brand that is going to be the center of your investigation!!!
  3. Now your adventure starts. The first thing that you have to find out is the origins of this brand. You have two options: you can try and find the web page of the company in Google and check if they have a "our history" link, (or something similar), or you can check the history of the company on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/).
  4. When you have answered the questions about the origins, it is time to move on into the present status. You might find a lot of the answers also in the web page of the company or in its wikipedia space. If there is something that you cannot find, you can try more specific links. Where? Use Google!!
  5. Now it is time for you to write the report. Open a Word Document on your computer and write down all the information that you have gathered into a text. 30 lines should be enough.
  6. Save the document with the name "Report on -*name of the brand you chose*", for example, "Report on CocaCola"
  7. Send it on an e-mail to the teacher.
Your reports will be evaluted based on the amount of information that you share and on the quality of your text: grammar correctness, organization, vocabulary, etc.

This is a task to get you used to using the internet to find information so we expect that after the task you will be able to:

-use search engines, like Google, to find information and the shortcuts to make your searches more specific.
-use online encyclopedias like Wikipedia.
-scan big texts in search for specific information. (the amount of information is vast, and you have to be able to ignore the information that is worthless for your searches).
-summarize and put together information in order to create a report on your new knowledge about a topic.
